Le nombre π est une constante mathématique, le rapport de la circonférence d'un cercle à son diamètre, approximativement égal à 3.14159. Il a été représenté par la lettre grecque "π" depuis le milieu du 18ème siècle bien qu'il soit aussi parfois énoncé comme "pi". Étant un nombre irrationnel, π ne peut pas être exprimé exactement comme une fraction commune, bien que des fractions telles que 22/7 et d'autres nombres rationnels soient couramment utilisées pour approximer π. Par conséquent, sa représentation décimale ne se termine jamais et ne se règle jamais dans un motif répétitif permanent. Les chiffres semblent être répartis au hasard bien qu'aucune preuve de cela n'a encore été découverte. En outre, π est un nombre transcendantal - un nombre qui n'est pas la racine d'un polynôme non nul ayant des coefficients rationnels.
