Une force de police est un corps constitué de personnes habilitées par l'État à faire respecter la loi, à protéger les biens et à limiter les troubles civils. Leurs pouvoirs comprennent l'utilisation légitimée de la force. Le terme est le plus souvent associé aux services de police d'un État autorisé à exercer le pouvoir de la police de cet État dans un domaine de responsabilité juridique ou territorial défini. La police a inclus une série d'activités dans différentes situations, mais les prédominants sont concernés par la préservation de l'ordre. Dans certaines sociétés, à la fin du 18ème et au début du XIXe siècles, celles-ci se sont développées dans le cadre du maintien du système de classe et de la protection de la propriété privée. Certaines parties du monde peuvent souffrir de corruption de la police. La police est généralement un service du secteur public, ce qui signifie qu'ils sont généralement payés par le contribuable.
