Syndrome de Prader-Willi
Le syndrome de Prader-Willi (/ prɑːdər vɪli /; abrégé PWS) est un trouble génétique rare dans lequel sept gènes (ou un sous-ensemble de celui-ci) sur le chromosome 15 (q 11-13) sont supprimés ou non exprimés (suppression chromosomique 15q partielle) sur le paternel chromosome. Il a été décrit pour la première fois en 1956 par Andrea Prader (1919-2001), Heinrich Willi (1900-1971), Alexis Labhart (1916-1994)), Andrew Ziegler et Guido Fanconi de Suisse. La caractéristique de PWS est «un faible tonus musculaire, une faible taille, un développement sexuel incomplet, des troubles cognitifs, des comportements problématiques et un sentiment chronique de faim qui peut conduire à une alimentation excessive et à une obésité mortelle». L'incidence de PWS est comprise entre 1 sur 25 000 et 1 sur 10 000 naissances vivantes. L'origine maternelle du matériel génétique qui est affecté dans le syndrome est importante parce que la région particulière du chromosome 15 impliqué est soumise à l'empreinte des parents d'origine, ce qui signifie que pour un certain nombre de gènes dans cette région, une seule copie du gène est exprimée pendant L'autre est silencieux par imprimeur.
