Cycle Rankine
Le cycle Rankine est un modèle utilisé pour prédire la performance des moteurs à vapeur. Le cycle de Rankine est un cycle thermodynamique idéalisé d'un moteur thermique qui convertit la chaleur en travail mécanique. La chaleur est fournie à l'extérieur en boucle fermée, qui utilise habituellement de l'eau comme fluide de travail. Le cycle de Rankine, sous la forme de machines à vapeur, génère environ 90% de l'énergie électrique utilisée dans le monde entier, y compris pratiquement toutes les centrales à biomasse, charbon, énergie solaire thermique et nucléaire. Il est nommé d'après William John Macquorn Rankine, professeur écossais de polymath et d'université de Glasgow.
