En génétique moléculaire, un répresseur est une protéine liant l'ADN ou l'ARN qui inhibe l'expression d'un ou plusieurs gènes en se liant à l'opérateur. Un répresseur liant l'ADN bloque la fixation de l'ARN polymérase au promoteur, empêchant ainsi la transcription des gènes dans l'ARN messager. Un répresseur liant l'ARN se lie à l'ARNm et empêche la traduction de l'ARNm en protéine. Ce blocage de l'expression s'appelle répression.
