Les seaducks, Merginae, forment une sous-famille de la famille d'oiseaux de canard, d'oie et de cygne, Anatidae. Comme son nom l'indique, la plupart, mais pas tous, sont essentiellement marins en dehors de la saison de reproduction. De nombreuses espèces ont développé des glandes salées spécialisées pour leur permettre de tolérer l'eau salée, mais elles sont absentes des juvéniles. Certains des mergans préfèrent les habitats riverains. Toutes les 20 espèces de ce groupe, sauf deux, occupent des habitats dans des latitudes lointaines du nord. Les membres qui mangent du poisson de ce groupe, tels que les mergansers et Smew, ont des bords dentelés à leurs factures pour les aider à prendre leur proie. Ceux-ci sont souvent connus sous le nom de «scies». D'autres seaducks prennent des mollusques ou des crustacés du fond marin.
