Sociobiologie
La sociobiologie est un domaine d'étude scientifique qui repose sur l'hypothèse que le comportement social résulte de l'évolution et tente d'expliquer et d'examiner le comportement social dans ce contexte. Souvent considéré comme une branche de la biologie et de la sociologie, il s'inspire également de l'ethologie, de l'anthropologie, de l'évolution, de la zoologie, de l'archéologie, de la génétique des populations et d'autres disciplines. Dans l'étude des sociétés humaines, la sociobiologie est étroitement liée aux domaines de l'anthropologie darwinienne, de l'écologie comportementale humaine et de la psychologie évolutive. La sociobiologie étudie les comportements sociaux, tels que les modèles d'accouplement, les combats territoriaux, la chasse au paquet et la société de la ruche des insectes sociaux. Il soutient que, tout comme la pression de sélection a conduit les animaux à développer des moyens utiles d'interagir avec l'environnement naturel, cela a conduit à l'évolution génétique du comportement social avantageux. Alors que le terme «sociobiologie» peut être tracé jusqu'en 1940, le concept n'a pas été reconnu jusqu'à 1975 avec la publication du livre de Edward O. Wilson, Sociobiology: The New Synthesis. Le nouveau domaine a rapidement fait l'objet d'une controverse vigoureuse.
