En biologie, une espèce est l'une des unités de base de la classification biologique et un rang taxonomique. Une espèce est souvent définie comme le plus grand groupe d'organismes capables de se reproduire et de produire des descendants fertiles. Bien que, dans de nombreux cas, cette définition soit adéquate, la difficulté de définir les espèces est connue sous le nom de problème d'espèce. Des mesures différentes sont souvent utilisées, telles que la similitude de l'ADN, la morphologie ou la niche écologique. La présence de traits spécifiques spécifiques localement peut subdiviser les espèces en "taxons infraspécifiques" tels que les sous-espèces.
