Réforme à la vapeur
Le réformage à la vapeur, parfois appelé Réformement des combustibles fossiles, est un procédé pour produire de l'hydrogène ou d'autres produits utiles à partir de combustibles hydrocarbonés tels que le gaz naturel. Ceci est réalisé dans un dispositif de traitement appelé réformateur qui réagit à la vapeur à haute température avec le combustible fossile. Le réformateur du méthane à vapeur est largement utilisé dans l'industrie pour fabriquer de l'hydrogène. Il existe également un intérêt pour le développement d'unités beaucoup plus petites basées sur une technologie similaire pour produire de l'hydrogène comme matière première pour les piles à combustible. Les unités de réforme à vapeur à petite échelle pour alimenter des piles à combustible font actuellement l'objet d'une recherche et d'un développement, impliquant généralement la réforme du méthanol ou du gaz naturel, mais d'autres combustibles sont également envisagés comme le propane, l'essence, l'autogase, le carburant diesel et l'éthanol.
