Sténotype
Un sténotype, une machine sténotype, une machine sténographie ou un écrivain Steno est un clavier ou une machine à écrire à cordes spécialisé utilisé par les sténographes pour une utilisation abrégée. Afin de passer le test du Représentant professionnel agréé des États-Unis, un journaliste ou un sous-titulaire agréé doit écrire des vitesses d'environ 180, 200 et 225 mots par minute avec une précision très élevée dans les catégories de lettres, de jury et de témoignage respectivement . Certains sténographes peuvent atteindre 300 mots par minute. Le site Web de la California Official Court Reporters Association donne le record officiel de l'anglais américain à 375 ppm. Le clavier stenotype a beaucoup moins de clés qu'un clavier alphanumérique conventionnel. Les touches multiples sont pressées simultanément pour indiquer toutes les syllabes, les mots et les phrases avec un simple mouvement de la main.
