Stratum (linguistique)
En linguistique, une strate ou une strate est une langue qui influence ou est influencée par un autre contact. Un substrat ou un substrat est une langue qui a une puissance ou un prestige inférieures à une autre, alors qu'un superstratum ou un superstrat est le langage qui a une puissance ou un prestige plus élevé. Les lentilles de substrat et de superstratum s'influencent mutuellement, mais de différentes façons. Un adstratum ou un addstrate se réfère à une langue qui est en contact avec une autre langue dans une population voisine sans avoir un prestige supérieur ou inférieur identifiable. La notion de «strates» a d'abord été développée par le linguiste italien Graziadio Isaia Ascoli et est connue dans le monde anglophone par deux auteurs différents en 1932. Ainsi, les deux termes se réfèrent à une situation où un langage intrusif s'établit dans la Territoire d'un autre, généralement en raison de la migration. Le fait que le cas du superstratum ou le substrat s'applique ne soit normalement évident qu'après plusieurs générations, au cours desquelles le langage intrusif existe dans une culture de la diaspora.
