Les tortues sont des reptiles de l'ordre Chelonii ou Testudines caractérisés par une coquille osseuse ou cartilagineuse spéciale développée à partir de leurs côtes et agissant comme un bouclier. La tortue peut se référer à l'ordre chelonien dans son ensemble ou aux chéloniens d'eau douce et d'eau douce. L'ordre Chelonii ou Testudines comprend des espèces existantes et éteintes. Comme les autres amotypes, les tortues respirent l'air et ne posent pas d'oeufs sous l'eau, bien que de nombreuses espèces vivent dans ou autour de l'eau.
