Transcendantalisme
Le transcendentalisme est un mouvement religieux et philosophique qui a été développé à la fin des années 1820 et 1830 dans la région orientale des États-Unis en tant que protestation contre l'état général de la spiritualité et, en particulier, l'intellectualisme à l'Université de Harvard et la doctrine de la Église unitaire enseignée à l'École de la Divinité de Harvard. Parmi les croyances essentielles des transcendantalistes, il y avait la bonté inhérente des personnes et de la nature. Les transcendantalistes croient que la société et ses institutions - en particulier la religion organisée et les partis politiques - corrompent finalement la pureté de l'individu.
