Transferrine
Les transferrines sont des glycoprotéines du plasma sanguin qui se fixent du fer qui contrôlent le taux de fer libre dans les fluides biologiques. La transferrine humaine est codée par le gène TF. Les glycoprotéines de transferrine unissent le fer très étroitement, mais de manière réversible. Bien que le fer lié à la transferrine soit inférieur à 0,1% du fer total du corps, c'est la plus importante piscine de fer, avec le taux de rotation le plus élevé. La transferrine a un poids moléculaire d'environ 80 KDa et contient deux sites spécifiques de liaison de Fe à haute affinité. L'affinité de la transferrine pour le Fe est extrêmement élevée mais diminue progressivement avec un pH décroissant au-dessous de la neutralité. Lorsqu'il n'est pas lié au fer, on l'appelle «apotransferrine».
