Tsimshian
Les Tsimshian sont un peuple indigène de la côte nord-ouest du Pacifique. Tsimshian se traduit par Inside the Skeena River. Leurs communautés sont en Colombie-Britannique et en Alaska, autour de Terrace et Prince Rupert et le coin le plus au sud de l'Alaska sur l'île Annette. Il y a environ 10 000 Tsimshian. Leur culture est matrilinéaire avec une structure sociétale basée sur un système de clan, désigné comme un fragment. Les premiers anthropologues et linguistes ont regroupé Gitxsan et Nisga'a comme Tsimshian en raison des affinités linguistiques. En vertu de cette terminologie, ils ont été appelés Coast Tsimshian, même si certaines communautés n'étaient pas côtières. Les trois groupes s'identifient comme pays distincts. Il existe de nombreuses autres façons d'épeler le nom, comme Tsimpshean, Tsimshean, Tsimpshian et d'autres, mais cet article utilisera l'orthographe "Tsimshian".
