Utilitarisme
L'utilitarisme est une théorie de l'éthique normative qui démontre que le bon déroulement de l'action est celui qui maximise l'utilité, habituellement défini comme maximisant le bénéfice total et réduisant la souffrance ou les négatifs. Les deux contributeurs les plus influents de l'utilitarisme classique sont Jeremy Bentham et John Stuart Mill. En termes simples, c'est la façon dont on se sert dans l'art de la prise de décision. John Stuart Mill, dans son livre utilitarisme, a déclaré: «Dans la règle d'or de Jésus de Nazareth, nous lisons l'esprit complet de l'éthique de l'utilité. Selon Bentham et Mill, l'utilitarisme n'est considéré comme une approche hédoniste que si les résultats d'une action ne causent pas directement un impact négatif sur les autres. Il est maintenant généralement considéré comme une forme de conséquentialisme, même si Anscombe a d'abord introduit ce terme pour distinguer «l'utilitarisme à l'ancienne» et le conséquentialisme. Dans l'utilitarisme, la valeur morale d'une action n'est déterminée que par ses conséquences.
