Les Weevers sont 9 espèces existantes de poissons de la famille Trachinidae, ordre Perciformes. Ils sont longs, principalement de couleur marron, et ont des épines empoisonnées sur leurs premières nageoires dorsales et leurs branchies. Au cours de la journée, nous nous enterrons dans le sable, en montrant leurs yeux et enlevant les proies au fur et à mesure, qui se compose de crevettes et de petits poissons. Les faiblesses sont inhabituelles pour ne pas avoir de vessies de bain, tout comme la plupart des poissons osseux et, par conséquent, couler dès qu'ils cessent de nager activement. À l'exception de T. cornutus du sud-est du Pacifique, toutes les espèces de cette famille sont limitées à l'Atlantique Est. Une espèce dixième et éteinte, Callipterus speciosus, est connue du Monte Bolca lagerstatte de l'époque lutetienne. Les Weevers sont parfois utilisés comme ingrédient dans la recette de bouillabaisse. Les faiblesses sont parfois appelées à tort comme «poissons tisserins», bien que le mot soit indépendant. En fait, on croit que le mot «weever» dérive du vieux mot français wivre, qui signifie serpent ou dragon, de la vipera latine. Il est parfois connu sous le nom de viperfish, bien qu'il ne soit pas lié au viperfish proprement dit.
