Il est défini comme se changeant en un composé souhaité in vivo après l'administration du promédicament. Bien que ce soit un médicament utile, il est chimiquement modifié pour être cliniquement utilisable car il a des propriétés qui ne sont pas appropriées pour les effets secondaires, la stabilité, la solubilité, l'absorption d'eau, le temps d'action et similaires. Par exemple, un médicament anti-inflammatoire non stéroïdien appelé prodrogue, qui est un anti-inflammatoire non stéroïdien, a été développé comme une substance inactive absorbée dans le tube digestif, puis métabolisée dans le foie, se transformant ainsi en substance active. C'est prévu. 프로드러그 투여후에 생체내에서 목적으로 하는 화합물로 변화되는 것으로 정의된다. 유용한 약물임에도 불구하고 부작용, 안정성, 용해성, 흡수성, 작용시간등에서 적합치 않는 성질을 가지고 있는 것에 화학적 수식을 가해서 임상사용 가능하게 한 것이다. 예를 들면 위장장애가 많은 비스테로이드 항염증약인 프로드러그가 개발되고 있는데, 불활성 물질로서 소화관에서 흡수되고 그 후 간장등에서 대사되어서 활성형의 물질로 변화해서 항염증 작용을 발휘하는 것으로 위장장애의 경감이 기대되고 있다.
