Pronostic est un terme médical pour une prédiction d'événement de suivi qui peut être pour le stand actuel d'une personne. Lorsqu'ils sont utilisés dans de grandes populations statistiques, les estimations du pronostic peuvent être très précises: par exemple, l'affirmation «45% des patients avec un choc septique grave mourront dans les 28 jours» peut être faite avec une certaine confiance. Le pronostic complet comprend la durée prévue, la fonction et la description de la voie de la maladie, comme un déclin progressif, une crise intermittente ou une crise soudaine inattendue.
