Wolverhampton est une ville du comté de West Midlands en Angleterre. La ville se trouve au nord-ouest de Birmingham et est la deuxième plus grande agglomération de West Midlands, avec une population de 240 000 habitants (2004). Les districts occidentaux comme Bilston et Heath Town se trouvent dans un district traditionnellement appelé Black Country. La ville est située sur le plateau de Midland, à une altitude moyenne de 120 m. La ville n'a pas de grandes rivières, mais ses sources sont la rivière Penk, le fleuve Tame et le ruisseau Smestow, les affluents de la rivière Stour. Nazwa miasta jest często skracana do “W-ton” lub “Wolves”, a przez wielu mieszkańców także do “Wolvo”. Początkowo, miasto rozwijało się jako miejscowość targowa, specjalizująca się w handlu wełną.
