Strabon (Strabon) - dans la version latinisée de Strabon - (63 ou 60 av. J.-C. Amasa Pontica - aujourd'hui Amasya - 21 ou 26 ap. J.-C.) était en réalité un surnom, signifiant Sasu, porté par un géographe grec ancien historiquement célèbre. Il a étudié en Asie Mineure, en Arménie, en Grèce, à Rome et à Alexandrie et a voyagé en Europe, en Afrique et en Asie Mineure jusqu'à la mer Rouge. Les premières esquisses historiques, contenues dans 47 livres, écrites probablement entre 27 av. Hrs et 7 AD, cité par les auteurs qui les ont suivis, ont été presque entièrement perdus. Il a ensuite écrit Géographie à partir de ses propres observations et des travaux de ses prédécesseurs, y compris Homère, Eratosthène, Polybe et Poséidonius. L'ouvrage contient, en plus du matériel historique, une série de descriptions des lieux (climat, relief, hydrographie) et des peuples, avec des aspects ethnographiques et mythologiques, constituant une riche source de connaissances sur le monde antique.

A studiat în Asia Minor, Armenia, Grecia, Roma și Alexandria și a călătorit în Europa, Africa și Asia Mică, până la Marea Roșie. Primele schițe istorice, cuprinse în 47 cărți, scrise probabil între 27 î. Hr. și 7 d. Hr, citate de autori ce i-au urmat, s-au pierdut aproape în întregime. Apoi a scris Geografia, pe baza propriilor observații și a operelor predecesorilor săi, inclusiv Homer, Eratosthenes, Polybius și Poseidonius. Lucrarea conține, pe lângă material istoric, o serie de descrieri de locuri (clima, relieful, hidrografia) și popoare, cu aspecte etnografice și mitologice, constituind un bogat izvor de cunoștințe despre lumea antică.
