Nella chimica organica, l'aromaticità è una proprietà chimica che descrive il modo in cui un anello coniugato di legami insaturi, coppie solide o orbite vuote presenta una stabilizzazione più forte di quanto ci si aspetterebbe dalla stabilizzazione della coniugazione da solo. L'uso più antico del termine fu in un articolo di August Wilhelm Hofmann nel 1855. Non esiste alcun rapporto tra l'aromaticità come proprietà chimiche e le proprietà olfattive di tali composti. L'aromatico può anche essere considerato una manifestazione di delocalizzazione ciclica e di risonanza. Questo è di solito considerato perché gli elettroni sono liberi di circolare attorno agli arrangiamenti circolari degli atomi che sono alternativamente singoli e doppi legati l'uno all'altro. Queste legame possono essere considerate come ibridi di un singolo legame e di un doppio legame, ogni legame nell'anello identico ad ogni altro. Questo modello di anelli aromatici comunemente visto, ossia l'idea che il benzene fosse formato da un anello di carbonio a sei elementi con alternanza di singoli e doppi legami, è stato sviluppato da Kekulé. Il modello per il benzene è costituito da due forme di risonanza, che corrispondono alle doppie e leghe singole sovrapponenti a dare origine a sei legami uno e mezzo.
