Un giorno di apertura è il termine utilizzato per le attività britanniche per un incontro, spesso di un intero dipartimento, di un progetto o di un team di vendite, che si svolge fuori sede e lontano dai circostanti ufficiali dei partecipanti, di solito per un intero giorno o talvolta un fine settimana. Può però riferirsi ad una riunione di un giorno in una stanza senza finestra in loco. L'intento è quello di consentire alla riunione di concentrarsi sul particolare compito a portata di mano senza che i partecipanti siano distratti dalle richieste che, se la riunione si svolgeva sul posto di lavoro, sarebbero normalmente fatte alla loro attenzione in virtù delle loro posizioni. Il termine deriva dal nome dato a un biglietto ferroviario di ritorno a basso costo, dopo che il prezzo di viaggio è stato introdotto sulla rete ferroviaria britannica degli anni Sessanta. Si usa anche per riferimento a una squadra di calcio che gioca un gioco lontano dal loro paese di origine e i tifosi che fanno il viaggio per la partita si riferiscono ad essere un "giorno di agosto" a causa del fatto che stanno pianificando la loro giornata in giro per il gioco di calcio via .
