CHE SIGNIFICA BARASINGA IN INGLESE
Barasingha
Il barasingha, chiamato anche cervo di palude, è una specie di cervo distribuita nel subcontinente indiano. Le popolazioni dell'India settentrionale e centrale sono frammentate e due popolazioni isolate si verificano nel Nepal sud-occidentale. È estinta in Pakistan e in Bangladesh. Il nome specifico commemora il naturalista francese Alfred Duvaucel. Il cervo di palude è diverso da tutte le specie di cervi indiane in quanto i corna trasportano più di tre puntine. A causa di questo carattere distintivo viene designato barasingha, che significa "dodici tinati". I cervi maturi hanno 10-14 tine e alcuni sono noti per avere fino a 20. In Assamese, barasingha è chiamato dolhorina; Dol significa palude. Nell'India centrale, si chiama goinjak o gaoni.
