Il Bhagavad Gita (Sanscrito: श्रीमद्भगवद्गीता, Śrīmadbhagavadgītā, la pronuncia di Sanscrito: (ascoltare)), significato letteralmente Il canto del Bhagavan, spesso indicato come semplicemente la Gita, è una scrittura di 700 versi che fa parte dell'epopea indù Mahabharata. È un testo sacro degli indù. La Gita è posta in un quadro narrativo di un dialogo tra il principe Pandava Arjuna e la sua guida Lord Krishna. Di fronte all'obbligo di uccidere i suoi parenti, Arjuna è "esortato dal suo charioteer, Kṛiṣhṇa, tra gli altri, a smettere di esitare e ad adempiere il suo dovere di Kṣatriya (guerriero) come un guerriero e uccidere". Inserito in questo appello a ksatriyadharma (eroismo) è "un dialogo tra divergenti atteggiamenti e metodi verso il conseguimento della liberazione (moksha). La Bhagavad Gita presenta una sintesi del concetto brahmanico del Dharma, il bhakti teistico, gli ideali yogici della liberazione attraverso Jnana, e la filosofia di Samkhya. It is a sacred text of the Hindus. The Gita is set in a narrative framework of a dialogue between Pandava prince Arjuna and his guide Lord Krishna. Facing the duty to kill his relatives, Arjuna is "exhorted by his charioteer, Kṛiṣhṇa, among others, to stop hesitating and fulfill his Kṣatriya (warrior) duty as a warrior and kill." Inserted in this appeal to ksatriyadharma (heroism) is "a dialogue between diverging attitudes concerning and methods toward the attainment of liberation (moksha). The Bhagavad Gita presents a synthesis of the Brahmanical concept of Dharma, theistic bhakti, the yogic ideals of liberation through jnana, and Samkhya philosophy. Numerous commentaries have been written on the Bhagavad Gita with widely differing views on the essentials.
