Un mercato nero o un'economia sommersa è il mercato in cui i beni oi servizi vengono scambiati illegalmente. La distinzione chiave di uno scambio del mercato nero è che l'operazione stessa è illegale. I beni oi servizi possono o non possono essere illegali a possedere oa scambi commerciali attraverso altri canali legali. Poiché le transazioni sono illegali, il mercato stesso è costretto ad operare al di fuori dell'economia formale, sostenuta dal potere statale stabilito. Motivi comuni per operare nei mercati neri sono quello di scambiare contrabbando, evitare imposte o controlli sui prezzi di gonna.
