Palude
Una palude è un fango che accumula la torba, un deposito di materiale vegetale morto, spesso muschi, e in gran parte dei casi, sphagnum muschio. È uno dei quattro principali tipi di zone umide. Altri nomi per le paludi includono il fango, il calamaro e il muschio; I pini alcalini sono chiamati fens. Sono frequentemente coperti da arbusti ericacei radicati nel muschio di sphagnum e nella torba. L'accumulazione graduale del materiale vegetale decaduto in una funzione di pozzo come lavandino di carbonio.
