Casuistry / kæʒuːɨstri /, o il ragionamento basato su fattispecie, è un metodo nell'etica applicata e nella giurisprudenza, spesso caratterizzata come una critica di ragionamento principio o di regola. La parola "casuistry" deriva dal casus latino. La casistica è ragionamento utilizzato per risolvere i problemi morali estraendo o estendendo le regole teoriche da particolari istanze e applicando queste regole a nuove istanze. Il termine è comunemente usato come pejorative per criticare l'uso di ragionamenti intelligenti, ma sospetti, soprattutto in relazione a questioni morali. Il significato concordato di "casuistry" è in flusso. Il termine può essere utilizzato per descrivere una forma di ragionamento presumibilmente accettabile o una forma di ragionamento inerente e ingannevole.
