Frizione centrifuga
Una frizione centrifuga è una frizione che utilizza la forza centrifuga per collegare due alberi concentrici, con l'albero di azionamento inserito all'interno dell'albero condotto. Si impegna più a velocità più elevate. L'ingresso della frizione è collegato all'albero motore, mentre l'uscita può azionare un albero, una catena o una cinghia. Quando aumentano le giri del motore al minuto, le braccia ponderate nella frizione oscillano verso l'esterno e forza la frizione per impegnarsi. I tipi più comuni hanno pattini d'attrito o scarpe montati radialmente che impegnano l'interno del bordo di un involucro. Sull'albero centrale ci sono un numero assortito di molle di estensione, che si collegano a una scarpa frizione. Quando l'albero centrale si spine abbastanza velocemente, le molle si estendono causando che le scarpe frizione impegnano il volto di attrito. Può essere confrontato con un freno a tamburo in senso inverso. Questo tipo può essere trovato sulla maggior parte dei kart costruiti a casa, attrezzature per prato e giardino, automobili a motore alimentato a carburante e motoseghe a basso consumo energetico. Un altro tipo utilizzato nei gommoni da corsa ha dischi frizione e frizione accatastati come una frizione motociclistica. Le braccia ponderate forzano questi dischi e impegnano la frizione.
