Melia azedarach, comunemente conosciuta da molti nomi, tra cui il cedro bianco, il chinaberry, il branco, il lillà capo, il berrytree della siringa, il lilla persiano e il lilla indiano, è una specie di albero deciduo nella famiglia mogano, Meliaceae, Indomalaya e Australasia. L'albero adulto ha una corona arrotondata e comunemente misura 7-12 metri di altezza, ma in circostanze eccezionali M. azedarach può raggiungere un'altezza di 45 metri. I fiori sono piccoli e fragranti, con cinque petali pallido viola o lilla, che crescono nei cluster. Il frutto è un drupe, di dimensioni marmoree, giallo chiaro alla maturità, appeso all'albero durante tutto l'inverno e gradualmente diventato rugoso e quasi bianco. Le foglie sono lunghe fino a 50 centimetri, alternate, a lunga paliolata, due o tre volte composte; I volantini sono di colore verde scuro e più leggeri verdi sotto, con margini di serrate.
