Confabulazione
Nella psicologia, la confabulazione è un disturbo della memoria, definito come la produzione di memorie fabbricate, distorte o erroneamente interpretate su se stessi o nel mondo, senza l'intenzione consapevole di ingannare. La confabulazione si distingue dal mentire poiché non c'è intenzione di ingannare e la persona è inconsapevole dell'informazione è falsa. Anche se gli individui possono presentare informazioni blatantly false, la confabulation può anche sembrare coerente, internamente coerente e relativamente normale. Gli individui che confabulano presentano memorie sbagliate che vanno da "alterazioni sottili alle fabbricazioni bizzarre", e sono generalmente molto sicure circa i loro ricordi, nonostante le prove contraddittorie. I casi più noti di confabulazione sono sintomatici dei danni al cervello o delle demenze, come l'aneurisma, la malattia di Alzheimer o la sindrome di Wernicke-Korsakoff. Due tipi di confabulazione sono spesso distinti: le confabulazioni provocate rappresentano una risposta normale a una memoria difettosa, sono comuni sia in amnesia che in demenza e possono apparire durante le prove di memoria. Le confabulazioni spontanee non si verificano in risposta a una cue e sembrano essere involontarie.
