Il debye (simbolo: D) è un'unità CGS (unità metrica non SI) di momento dipolo elettrico denominato in onore del fisico Peter J. W. Debye. È definito come 1 × 10-18 statcoulomb-centimetro. Storicamente il debye è stato definito come il momento del dipolo derivante da due cariche di segno opposto, ma una uguale grandezza di 10-10 statcoulomb (generalmente denominata e.s.u. (unità elettrostatica) in letteratura più antica), separate da 1 ångström. Specie homoatomiche simmetriche, ad es Cloro, Cl2, hanno momento di dipolo zero e specie molecolari altamente ioniche hanno un momento di dipolo molto grande, ad es. Bromuro di potassio di fase gas, KBr, con un momento di dipolo di 10,5 D. Il debye è ancora utilizzato nella fisica atomica e nella chimica perché le unità SI sono inconvenientemente grandi.
