Nella musica, una doppia fermata si riferisce alla tecnica di suonare due note contemporaneamente su uno strumento a corda ricurvo come un violino, una viola, un violoncello o un contrabbasso. Nell'eseguire una doppia fermata, due stringhe distinte vengono piegate o incollate contemporaneamente. Anche se il termine stesso suggerisce che queste stringhe devono essere dito, in pratica una o entrambe le stringhe possono essere aperte. Una stop tripla è la stessa tecnica applicata a tre stringhe; Un quadruplo stop si applica a quattro stringhe. La fermata a doppia, tripla e quadrupla è conosciuta collettivamente come arresto multiplo. Primi esempi estesi degli accordi a doppio stop e stringa si presentano nel Capriccio Stravagante di Carlo Farina del 1627 e in alcune delle sonate dell'op. Biagio Marini. 8 del 1629.

In music, a double stop refers to the technique of playing two notes simultaneously on a bowed stringed instrument such as a violin, a viola, a cello, or a double bass. In performing a double stop, two separate strings are bowed or plucked simultaneously. Although the term itself suggests these strings are to be fingered, in practice one or both strings may be open. A triple stop is the same technique applied to three strings; a quadruple stop applies to four strings. Double, triple, and quadruple stopping are collectively known as multiple stopping. Early extensive examples of the double-stop and string chords appear in Carlo Farina's Capriccio Stravagante from 1627, and in certain of the sonatas of Biagio Marini's op. 8 of 1629.
