Entasis
Nell'architettura, entasis è l'applicazione di una curva convessa a una superficie per scopi estetici. Il suo uso più conosciuto è in certi ordini di colonne classiche che curvano leggermente mentre il loro diametro diminuisce dal basso verso l'alto. Nel periodo ellenistico alcune colonne con entasis sono cilindriche nelle loro parti inferiori. Alcune colonne romane sono "a forma di sigaro", con il punto più ampio qualche distanza al di sopra del piede. La parola deriva dalla parola greca εντείνω, "per allungare o tirare stretto".
