Fibril è una fibra fine, come un miofibril o neurofibril. Neurofilamenti sono di circa 10 nanometri di diametro. Fibrille citoplasmatiche sono osservate sui cilindri protoplasmatici presenti nella maggior parte delle specie spirochetali, anche se non è stata attribuita alcuna funzione dei fibrille citoplasmatiche. Polisaccaridi, l'unione di diversi monosaccharidi legati, a volte servono come un composto strutturale. La cellulosa forma stringhe a cavo, note come fibrille nelle pareti duri che racchiudono cellule vegetali. Mentre la cellulosa è una compilazione di monomeri di glucosio, formano fili lunghi e non sporgenti, invece di spirali come amido o glicogeno. Questi sono disposti in linee parallele che si formano in cima all'altro in uno strato intricato attraverso l'adesione di idrogeno. Il muscolo di volo degli insetti è detto fibrillare, in quanto contratta in risposta a essere allungato da muscoli antagonisti, in modo da consentire una contrazione molto rapida.
