Granito / ɡrænɨt / è un tipo comune di roccia ignea intrusiva felsica, granulosa e fannermica in tessuto. La parola "granito" deriva dal granum latino, un grano, in riferimento alla struttura grossolana di una roccia così olocristallina. Il termine "granito" si applica anche a un gruppo di rocce igneose intrusive con texture simili e leggerissime variazioni sulla composizione e l'origine. Queste rocce sono costituite prevalentemente da minerali di feldspato, quarzo, mica e amfiboli. Queste forme formano una matrice piuttosto equigranulare del feldspato e del quarzo con la mica biotite più scura e l'amphibole che pepe i minerali di colore più chiari. Occasionalmente alcuni cristalli individuali sono più grandi del terreno, in tal caso la texture è nota come porfirico. Una roccia granitica con una struttura porfirica è conosciuta come un porfido in granito. I graniti possono essere prevalentemente di colore bianco, rosa o grigio, a seconda della loro mineralogia. Per definizione, il granito è una roccia ignea con almeno il 20% di quarzo e fino al 65% di feldspato alcalino per volume.
