Spiraea tomentosa, comunemente conosciuta come il steeplebush, il meadowsweet, o il hardhack, è una pianta simile a caratteristiche di S. douglasii. Spiraea tomentosa cresce fino a quattro metri di altezza, e preferisce umido a bagnato terreno e pieno sole. Fiorisce in estate. I fiori individuali di Steeplebush sono circa 1/16 di un pollice largo e sono disposti in stretta e piramide a forma di cluster che possono essere fino a otto pollici di lunghezza. Farfalle e altri insetti nutrizionali di nettare trovano i fiori molto attraenti. I fiori sono seguiti da piccoli, secchi, frutti marroni. Ha un tomentum densa bianco-lana che copre il suo fusto e la parte inferiore delle sue foglie. È noto per le sue proprietà astringenti, che causano l'uso medico. La zona di rigidità per questa pianta è elencata come zone da 4 a 8. Si trova nativamente negli Stati Uniti e in Canada orientali.
