Storicismo
Storicismo è un modo di pensare che assegna un significato centrale e fondamentale a un contesto specifico, come il periodo storico, il luogo geografico e la cultura locale. In quanto tale, è in contrasto con le teorie individualiste di conoscenze quali l'empirismo e il razionalismo, che trascurano il ruolo delle tradizioni. Il historicalismo tende pertanto ad essere ermeneutico, perché attribuisce grande importanza all'interpretazione cauto, rigorosa e contestualizzata dell'informazione, o relativista, perché rifiuta le nozioni di interpretazioni universali, fondamentali e immutabili. Il termine ha sviluppato significati diversi e divergenti, anche se leggermente legati. Elementi di storicismo appaiono negli scritti del filosofo italiano G. B. Vico e saggista francese Michel de Montaigne e si sono sviluppati appieno con la dialettica di G. W. F. Hegel, influente nell'Europa del XIX secolo. Gli scritti di Karl Marx, influenzati da Hegel, contengono anche storicismo. Il termine è associato anche alle scienze sociali empiriche e all'opera di Franz Boas.
