L'interesse è una tassa versata da un mutuatario di attività al proprietario come una forma di risarcimento per l'utilizzo delle attività. È più comunemente il prezzo pagato per l'utilizzo di denaro prestato, o denaro guadagnato da fondi depositati. Quando il denaro viene preso in prestito, l'interesse viene in genere pagato al prestatore come percentuale del capitale, l'importo dovuto al prestatore. L'interesse viene calcolato sul valore delle attività nello stesso modo che sul denaro. L'interesse è il risarcimento del prestatore, a) rischio di perdita principale, chiamato rischio di credito; E b) rinuncia a altri investimenti che potrebbero essere stati effettuati con l'attività prestata. Questi investimenti dimenticati sono conosciuti come il costo di opportunità. Invece del prestatore che utilizza direttamente le attività, sono avanzate al mutuatario.
