Un ascensore è un dispositivo meccanico utilizzato per ascendere su una corda. Un tale dispositivo è un Jumar, chiamato dopo la fabbrica svizzera che ha sviluppato il primo strumento per la vendita nel 1958. Il nome del dispositivo porta anche al termine Jumaring per il processo di utilizzo di un tale dispositivo. Altri termini per questo processo includono l'ascendente, il prusiking e il jugging. Gli ascensori offrono funzionalità simili ai nodi di attrito, ma sono più veloci e più facili da usare, anche se con conseguenze sulla sicurezza.
