labialization
La labializzazione è una funzionalità articolatoria secondaria dei suoni in alcune lingue. I suoni labializzati coinvolgono le labbra mentre il resto della cavità orale produce un altro suono. Il termine è normalmente limitato alle consonanti. Quando le vocali coinvolgono le labbra, vengono chiamate arrotondate. Le consonanti labializzate più comuni sono velari labializzati. La maggior parte degli altri suoni labializzati hanno anche una velarizzazione simultanea e il processo può quindi essere definito più precisamente labio-velarizzazione. La labializzazione può anche fare riferimento a un tipo di processo di assimilazione.
