Linsangs è un nome originario del ghanese applicato a quattro specie di mammiferi carnivori che abitano in un albero. Le due specie africane appartengono alla famiglia Viverridae, le due specie asiatiche appartengono alla famiglia Prionodontidae. Entrambi i generi linsang sono stati precedentemente collocati nella sottofamiglia Viverrinae, insieme a diversi altri generi, ma le recenti ricerche suggeriscono che le loro relazioni reali possono essere un po 'diverse. I linsang sono notevoli per la loro somiglianza morfologica con i gatti, la famiglia Felidae, che è maggiore di quella degli altri viverridi.
