Un deposito petrolifero è un impianto relativamente non sofisticato in quanto non vi è alcuna trasformazione o altra trasformazione in loco. I prodotti che raggiungono il deposito sono nella loro forma definitiva adatti per la consegna ai clienti. In alcuni casi gli additivi possono essere iniettati in prodotti in vasche, ma in genere non esistono impianti di produzione in loco.
