Okapi
L'okapi / oʊkɑːpiː /, noto anche come la giraffa forestale o la zebra giraffa, è un mammifero artiodattil giraffido nativo della foresta pluviale di Ituri, situato nel nord-est della Repubblica Democratica del Congo in Africa Centrale. Sebbene l'okapi porta marcature a righe che ricordano le zebre, è strettamente legato alla giraffa. Gli okapi e la giraffa sono gli unici membri della famiglia Giraffidae. L'animale è stato portato ad un'attenzione prominente europea dalla speculazione sulla sua esistenza trovata nei rapporti stampa popolari che riguardano i viaggi di Henry Morton Stanley nel 1887. I resti di una carcassa furono poi inviati a Londra dall'avventuriero inglese e dall'amministratore coloniale Harry Johnston e divenne un evento mediatico 1901.
