CHE SIGNIFICA PARAPARESIS IN INGLESE
Paraplegia
Paraplegia è una diminuzione della funzione motoria o sensoriale delle estremità inferiori. La parola viene dal greco ionico: παραπληγίη "metà colpisce". Di solito è causato da lesioni del midollo spinale o da una condizione congenita come la spina bifida che colpisce gli elementi neurali del canale spinale. L'area del canale spinale che è affetto da paraplegia è la regione toracica, lombare o sacrale. Se tutti e quattro gli arti sono affetti da paralisi, la tetraplegia è la terminologia appropriata. Se si colpisce solo un arto, il termine corretto è monoplegia. La paraplegia spastica è una forma di paraplegia definita dalla spasticità dei muscoli affetti, piuttosto che dalla paralisi flaccida.
