Parte del discorso
Nella grammatica, una parte del discorso è una categoria linguistica delle parole, che è generalmente definita dal comportamento sintattico o morfologico dell'elemento lessico in questione. Le categorie linguistiche comuni includono il sostantivo e il verbo, tra gli altri. Ci sono classi di parole aperte che acquisiscono costantemente nuovi membri e lezioni di parole chiuse, che acquisiscono nuovi membri raramente se a tutti. Quasi tutte le lingue hanno il sostantivo e il verbo delle categorie lessicali, ma al di là di queste ci sono variazioni significative in lingue diverse. Ad esempio, il giapponese ha ben tre categorie di aggettivi in cui l'inglese ha uno; Cinese, coreano e giapponese hanno classificatori nominali, mentre le lingue europee non lo fanno; Molte lingue non hanno una distinzione tra aggettivi e avverbi, aggettivi e verbi o aggettivi e sostantivi, ecc. Questa variazione del numero di categorie e delle loro proprietà identificative comporta che l'analisi sia fatta per ogni singola lingua. Tuttavia, le etichette di ciascuna categoria sono assegnate sulla base di criteri universali.
