CHE SIGNIFICA PASSUS IN INGLESE

Un passo era una misura della distanza utilizzata in Roma antica. Era nominalmente la misura di un passo completo dalla posizione del tallone quando è sollevata dal suolo fino al punto che lo stesso tallone viene riposto nuovamente alla fine del passo. Così, una distanza può essere "frenata" contando ogni volta che lo stesso tallone tocca terra, o, in altre parole, ogni altro passo. A Roma, questa unità è stata standardizzata come due gradi o cinque piedi romani. C'erano 1000 passus in una mille, e una mille era talvolta definita come un passaggio di mille. Il ritmo bizantino o vema era di 2 piedi. Un passo nella terminologia moderna è solitamente considerato come un solo passo, piuttosto che un doppio passo. Non ha alcuna definizione formale ma è presa come circa 30 pollici.
