Una tavola di disegno è un dispositivo meccanico utilizzato dalla US Coast Artillery per tenere traccia del percorso osservato di un bersaglio, proiettare la sua posizione futura e trarre i dati non corretti su azimuth e gamma necessari per dirigere il fuoco delle armi di una batteria per colpire questo bersaglio. Le tavole da disegno di questo tipo furono impiegate per la prima volta dalla Artilleria della Costa intorno al 1905 e furono il mezzo primario per calcolare i dati di cottura fino alla Seconda Guerra Mondiale. Sebbene nel corso degli anni siano state utilizzate diverse tipologie di tavole da disegno, la Costellazione Artigianale delle Costiere, l'esempio qui descritto è il Whistler-Hearn Plotting Board, modello del 1904, che è stato ampiamente impiegato dalla Artigillia costiera tra il 1905 e il 1925. Questa descrizione è principalmente Derivato da due manuali del periodo, ognuno dei quali lascia alcuni aspetti del disegno e l'uso del consiglio non spiegato. Un manuale del 1940 descrive anche la scheda Whistler-Hearn.
