Reggenza
Una reggenza è il periodo di regola di un reggente o di reggenti. Un reggente, dal regno latino, "regnante", o il consiglio regency è una persona o un gruppo di persone scelte per agire come capo di stato perché il governatore è un minore, non presente, o debilitato. Occasionalmente, il termine reggente si riferisce a posizioni inferiori al governatore di un paese. Nella Repubblica delle Province Unite i membri della classe dirigente, non formalmente ereditari ma de facto patrizi, erano conosciuti collettivamente come regentanti. Nelle Indie orientali olandesi, un reggente era un principe nativo autorizzato a governare il "stato" de facto colonizzato come un regentschap. Di conseguenza, nello stato successore dell'Indonesia, il termine reggente viene usato in inglese per significare un bupati. Attualmente esistono solo due reggimenti di governo del mondo, il sovrano Liechtenstein e lo stato costitutivo malese di Kedah.
