Il pino scozzese è una specie di pino originario dell'Europa e dell'Asia, che va dall'Europa occidentale alla Siberia orientale, dal sud ai monti del Caucaso, e dal nord fino al Circolo Artico in Scandinavia. A nord della sua gamma, si verifica dal livello del mare a 1.000 m, mentre nel sud della sua gamma è un albero di montagna ad alta quota, che cresce a quota 1200-2.600 m.
